Christmas just got better for Street Children in Mumbai as LANXESS joins hands with Bombay Teen Challenge

It’s the festive season and everyone is engrossed in celebrating the Christmas and New Year with their loved ones. But who thinks of those who don’t have any one to love them? Well, LANXESS India Private Limited (LIPL) has decided to become a Santa Clause for the children dwelling on streets, victim of beggary and living in challenging conditions. LIPL has joined hands with an NGO - Bombay Teen Challenge in attempt to bring some cheer on faces of under-privileged children.

LANXESS India Private Limited will take care of expenses of tuition fees for one year for 76 Children associated with Bombay Teen Challenge. The future of India can be bleak with several thousands of its future citizens homeless and starving. They are left to fend for themselves where they can succumb to the evils of exploitation and abuse. LANXESS India Private Limited will provide some of these children that are rescued and looked after by Bombay Teen Challenge, with bed sheets, sweets and lunch. Employees of LANXESS will paint their shelter at Gole Deol, Near Grant Road in Mumbai on December 28, 2007. The paint for this initiative will be provided by LANXESS India.

This program for underprivileged children is unique to LANXESS India. LANXESS in other parts of the world have identified areas which are critical to those countries. LANXESS believes that its CSR activities should look beyond its business boundaries and be directly beneficial to its local community. This will kick start the CSR activities for the year 2008.

Dr. Strassburger, Managing Director and Country Representative, LANXESS India states, “Although starting out in a small way, LANXESS India intends to carry on its CSR activities in different parts of the country. Maharashtra, Gujarat and other parts of the country where we have our presence will be the focus of these activities.”

Bombay Teen Challenge is a non-profit NGO recognized by the Government of India and is registered under the BPT Act F –14248. The NGO is engaged in activities of Health, Education, Social Welfare and Rehabilitation of drug addicted boys and youth, women trapped in prostitution, the at-risk daughters of prostitutes and other girls vulnerable to the sex industry and street children who are vulnerable to abuse and exploitation especially beggar children.
